Just to give you some background on how the project came about, I am the artistic director for Peninsula Amateur Theatre and was looking for a platform for us to return to following the pandemic. My initial idea was for us to record a series of Podcasts based around some short stories and maybe leading up to recording a full play based on our local playwright Joseph Tomelty.

Having done some research, the idea has been developed with the help of County Down Network we have received funding for an initial 6 episodes and the idea has been opened to the whole community to get involved. Peninsula Theatre will provide one of the episodes, and another from Portaferry Men’s Shed. The other episodes are still being developed.

For our first episode our plan is to involve the young people of the community giving them an opportunity to write a short story or poem with the chance of it being broadcasted. In an ideal world pre pandemic the chance to record our children’s voices narrating their own short stories would have been our obvious choice but under current legislations this will not be possible. A member of our drama group will be broadcasting them on their behalf with the hope that when restrictions lift there maybe the possibility, they will be able to record their versions in the future.

The platform on how this will be broadcast is still being decided, Ferry Fm have offered their services in recording and uploading the finished pieces to their website on a “listen later” option. This episode will be called “Tiny Stories by Little People”.

Stories can be emailed directly to portaferrypodcast@outlook.com. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you need any more information. The project will be called Portaferry Pod Casting.
