Sustrans and The Big Pedal

9th Mar 2017

The Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scootering challenge. It inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school.

We had a recent visit from Emma at Sustrans to encourage the children to take part in this event.  She also gave the children a talk and demonstration about bikes and how to take care of them to keep them in full working order.

How it works

On each day of the Big Pedal challenge, schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils, staff and parents cycling or scootering to school. Schools log their journeys on the big pedal website and are given a daily score to help mark their progress.

Healthy travel habits

During the Big Pedal 2016 schools recorded over 1 million journeys by bike and scooter in just two weeks. Well done to everyone who took part. Let's see if we can beat that figure this year!
